The West Lancashire Festival of Transport 2007

The West Lancashire Festival of Transport 2007

The West Lancashire Festival of Transport 2007 today celebrated its eighth year at the Leisure Lakes, Mere Brow near Southport.

The huge fields have successfully hosted transport shows in the past and today’s show was no exception and turned out to be the best ever.

The show proved to be a great family day out with displays of classic cars, commercial vehicles, vintage motorcycles, military vehicles, tractors and stationary engines.

There were also the usual trade stalls, craft stalls, children’s entertainment, food and refreshments.

All proceeds from the show go to local charities, the main beneficiary being Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley.

Pictured below are photographs from today’s event.

Saw one broken down yesterday on the Rainford Bye Pass. Hope he made it. He was a bit big to offer a tow. 25pounder field gun unit.

The 'Yellow GreenGoddess' fire engine was so painted because it saw service in Northern Ireland during the last fire service strike and to destinguish it from ordinary army vehicles. It also has grills on the windows....just in case !

Great pics, I had hoped to get down to see the show, but was unable to make it. It looked really good, even with the bad weather.

Hi Greywolf
Thanks for posting the message - yes we did eventually make it to the show - we had only come from Ashton In Makerfield and broke down at 10.30am - we eventually got our haulier friends to tow us to the show and got there at 7.30pm !! - long time to site on the rainford bypass - we had the carb apart and half the truck and in the end it was a simple thing like the tube from the carb to the air filter had colapsed and so there was very little air flow and would not go (fixed it early sunday morning) - we then won 1st place in the military vehicle section - so well worth the trouble !! - always a great show pitty about the weather but no one can do anything about that ! -

Brilliant pictures...it's a pity that the weather let the event down a bit. I'm sure that there were a few anxious fanatical car owners who would rather had not got their prized vintage car wet on a muddy field, but I think on the whole everybody really enjoyed themselves. It was a brilliant event, if not a bit steep for my family to go, £15 for entry? Worth it in the long run though!

:)

Many thanks "onthe spot" for posting the excellent photos of our show. Sorry about the weather but I hope you all enjoyed yourselves if you attended. I have posted more photos on our club website (www.westlancsmg.co.uk) . Thanks to all those exhibitors who turned up despite the atrocious conditions. Cheers Cam - West Lancs MG secretary.
